We understand the importance of investing in our postgraduate researchers and therefore offer unique scholarship opportunities through fully funded projects.

Global Challenges PhD Scholarships

We have invested in up to 20 fully funded Global Challenges PhD scholarships for UK/EU applicants, enabling the very best applicants to join us in our research to explore, analyse and provide innovative solutions to challenges in the modern world. 

Branching across multiple disciplines, successful Global Challenges scholars will experience a unique research project, working with experts in their field, and be part of new and existing collaborations between leading research groups at Birmingham. The annual scholarship fund covers full payment of tuition fees and an annual doctoral stipend.

Priestley PhD Scholarships

As part of a global collaboration with the University of Melbourne, we are offering up to 20 Priestley PhD scholarships annually, enabling research students to work with academics in Birmingham and Melbourne.

The joint PhD programme, co-funded by both institutions, will award up to 20 ‘Priestley Scholars’ in engineering subjects the opportunity to study alongside world-leading academics from both universities, carrying out research at both universities.

Working together across shared areas of priority research including energy storage, biomechanics, artificial intelligence and robotics will lead to high-quality research with global impact, and provide exciting research opportunities for PhD students.
