A guest lecture by Dr Catherine O’Rawe, Reader in Modern Italian Culture in the School of Modern Languages in the University of Bristol, followed by a special screening of Fire at Sea a film by Gianfranco Rosi (Italy, 2016).

Synopsis: Samuele is 12 years old and lives on an island in the middle of the sea called Lampedusa, the symbolic border of Europe, crossed by thousands of migrants in search of freedom. FIRE AT SEA won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and is a timely documentary that delivers heartfelt insight into the biggest humanitarian crisis of our age.
