Dr Mark Paterson Department of Sociology, University of Pittsburgh, USA.

Hosted by Dr Jessica Pykett, School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Dr Paterson has an international reputation for research on the body, the senses, technology, and space. He will work with our Embodied Geographies research group in the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences (GEES); established in 2012, this group explores the intersections between bodies, landscapes and materialities in explaining humans' interactions with the world. Their research develops and challenges recent geographical scholarship on the emotional, affective and embodied aspects of everyday practice, and collectively they are developing the research capacity to contribute to interdisciplinary and cross-college research initiatives on urban health, urban stress, creativity and vulnerability, biosocial methods and the energy-food-water nexus.

During Mark’s visit an IAS Workshop is planned:

‘Body 2.0. Embodied processes and technologies in the flows of urban capitalism’ exploring the themes of: Embodied Technologies, Biopolitics and Biosocial Urban Emotions
