Dr. Olawuyi is a prolific and highly regarded scholar that has published several influential articles, books, and reports on climate finance, energy infrastructure, and extractive resource governance.  His most recent book is The Human Rights-Based Approach to Carbon Finance (Cambridge University Press 2016).  Dr. Olawuyi was formerly an international energy lawyer at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP, Calgary, where he served on the firm’s global committee on extractive resource investments in Africa. He has lectured on energy and environmental law in over 40 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and the Middle East. Dr. Olawuyi serves on the executive committees and boards of several organizations; and is a regular media commentator on all aspects of natural resources, energy and environmental law.

Dr Olawuyi’s visit will significantly advance interdisciplinary and comparative evaluations of law, governance and institutional innovations for addressing water-energy-food nexus issues in Qatar and the United Kingdom. As an IAS Vanguard Fellow, Dr Olawuyi will work collaboratively, not just with colleagues within the Law School who are engaged in similar types of research, but with experts across the University of Birmingham.
