Speaker: Professor Ruth Milkman, City University of New York Graduate Center. 

The world-renowned sociologist of work, Professor Ruth Milkman will give a public lecture on the themes of her recent work on ‘New Labour in New York: Precarious Workers and Their Organizing Efforts’.

Prof. Milkman is Professor of Sociology at the City University of New York Graduate Center. She was formerly Professor of Sociology at UCLA, where she also directed the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment. Her books include Gender at Work (1987), Farewell to the Factory (1997) and LA Story (2006).  The last, a study of migrants and trade unions in Los Angeles, underpins her most recent research.
