Workshop Leader: Professor Rob MacKenzie

This is an opportunity for researchers to come together prior to the next round of funding applications to  identify and forward-plan, regarding the science that can and should take place at BIFoR FACE and identify opportunities for interdisciplinary research. The day will encompass a series of workshops divided into 6 different research themes – ecology/network biology; land-atmosphere; ecohydrology; omics approaches; litter and sub-surface; and ecosystems modelling.

The facility is arranged around 6 rings (of about 25m diameter), 3 of which will act as controls and 3 will have elevated levels of CO2 piped in. This will raise the CO2 to approximately 550ppm the predicted concentration of CO2 in 2050. Currently the CO2 levels are around 400ppm. In March 2017 we will begin fumigation.

The key output for the day will be the establishment of a Science Access Committee for work carried out at BIFoR FACE, and the identification of leaders for proposals.

To register to attend this workshop please email Deanne Brettle. There will be an opportunity to visit the FACE Facility on either the 28th or 30th September 2016; please let Deanne know if you are interested in visiting.
