WORKSHOP LEADERS – Professor Fiona de Londras, Birmingham Law School and Dr Sydney Calkin, Durham, IAS Vanguard Fellow
We are delighted to be collaborating with the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute at Trinity College Dublin to hold this IAS Workshop: Spatiality and Abortion Travel. This workshop aims to bridge legal and geographical approaches to the governance of reproductive rights, bringing together researchers from Law, Geography and aligned fields from the University of Birmingham and the UK and Ireland more broadly. The workshop will address spatiality and abortion law, bringing together disparate threads of work in Birmingham and beyond in order to lead on the questions that spatiality and abortion law regulation raise for multiple disciplines and particularly for the relationship between law and geography.
The workshop will also feature the work of our IAS Vanguard Fellow Dr Sydney Calkin, a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow in Geography at Durham. She is a feminist political geographer whose research examines reproductive rights around the world, who will be collaborating with Birmingham Law School (and more widely) on gender, borders, and trans-national legal regimes that govern reproduction.
