WORKSHOP LEADER – IAS Vanguard Fellow Prof Wenjun Xu, Wuhan University of Technology, China

Lunch will be available from 12:00pm in the Engineering lounge, the lecture starts at 1pm in room B05.

Sustainable manufacturing is a novel manufacturing model aimed at achieving a balanced and harmonious development of the economy, environment and society. It has been receiving increasing attention from governments, academia and industry. In the Industry 4.0 era, significant developments in manufacturing intelligence and manufacturing services, as well as advances in industrial big data, cyber-physical production systems and digital twins, introduce a new connotation to sustainable manufacturing. In a factory floor environment, industrial robots are the key equipment for intelligent manufacturing and have been widely used in various manufacturing areas important to the national economy. Research on improving production efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and improving production harmony is of great significance to the core competitiveness of enterprises and their sustainable development. Aiming at industrial robot-enabled sustainable manufacturing which is a high-end manufacturing model, this presentation will mainly focus on the areas of industrial cloud robotics, energy-efficient robotised manufacturing, and human-robot collaboration in disassembly. The presentation will describe the related theories and key technologies, such as multi-modal and multi-condition perception, big data analytics, modelling and simulation, cyber-physical production systems and digital twins, intelligent analysis and knowledge evolution, intelligent planning and decision-making, etc., which are located in such areas. Finally, prototype systems and case studies from several industrial applications will be discussed.

All are welcome to attend. Lunch served 12:30.

Prof Wenjun Xu is a Vanguard Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies and a Professor at Wuhan University of Technology, China. He is hosted by Professor Duc Truong Pham, Chance Professor of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering.
