Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Materials Processing

The mission statement of the IRC is: “… a design-driven approach to the development of new materials, novel materials processing and manufacturing technologies and the subsequent use of computer aided materials engineering to allow efficient transfer to industry….”

The Interdisciplinary Research Centre (IRC) in Materials for High Performance Application was set up in October 1989 at the universities of Birmingham and Swansea. At Birmingham the name changed to the IRC in Materials Processing in 2001, the research centre bringing together staff from Metallurgy and Materials and Chemical Engineering.
