Qianxi's current research is mainly on bubble dynamics and cavitation generation.

Qianxi has published 65 journal papers with 10 papers in Journal of Fluid Mechanics and 21 papers in Physics of Fluids. About a half of them are in A* journals in Applied Mathematics according to the ERA Journal rankings (widely used by mathematicians for journal ranking). For a list of publications, please see Google Scholar or ResearchGate.

  • His publications are with the overall median 80 of the publication percentile.
  • He has 13 articles with the publication percentile in the range of 95-100.

Qianxi has obtained over £2M research grants in total from EPSRC, Ministry of Defence, Singapore and NSFC, etc. He currently has an EPSRC grant entitled “Can we maximise cavitation around dental ultrasonic scaler tips?" as CI with £360K of allocated funding.

He has led the Birmingham Bubble Group since 2013, a well-recognized world leading group in the mathematics of bubbles.

Research Activity

Qianxi has developed two internationally significant contributions in bubble dynamics: the weakly compressible theory for nonspherical bubbles and the vortex ring model for toroidal bubbles, in collaboration with John Blake, and KS Yeo, BC Khoo and KY Lam, respectively.

Qianxi has developed domestic and international collaborations and co-authored over 20 journal papers with following colleagues:

  • Professor Damien Walmsley, School of Dentistry, University of Birmingham
  • Associated Professor Kuo-Kang Liu, School of Engineering, Warwick University
  • Professor Tim Phillips, School of Mathematics, Cardiff University
  • Associate Professor Soon Keat Tan, Nanyang Technological University Singapore
