Dr Huang is an algebraic geometer motivated by questions in homological mirror symmetry. His previous work on orbifold Hochschild cohomology uses tools from derived geometry and has applications to mirror symmetry and hyperkähler resolution conjecture.

His recent work focuses on Landau-Ginzburg model and categorical Gromov-Witten invariants. He is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in the Geometry and Mathematical Physics Group at the University of Birmingham, working with Dr Tyler Kelly under the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship grant 'Open Mirror Geometry for Landau-Ginzburg Models'.

Biography

Dr Shengyuan Huang received his Bachelor of Science at Nankai University in 2015, where he won the first prize scholarship. He moved to the United States and obtained a PhD degree in 2021 under the supervision of Professor Andrei Caldararu at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Shengyuan was a teaching assistant in six years, organized graduate student seminars, and directed undergraduate reading programs during his PhD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At the end of his PhD, he won Excellence in Research Award from the university.

Dr. Shengyuan joined the Geometry and Mathematical Physics group in September 2021.
