Insitute for Biomedical Research buildingThe majority of the research groups in the Centre are based in the Institute For Biomedical Research, a £28 million development with 3000 m2 of state of the art laboratory accommodation. The IBR building was completed in 2003 using £30m of JIF-research facility funding. It provides an interactive research environment for over 300 scientists.

Facilities provided by the MRC Centre core support include:

Flow Cytometry

  • Mo Flo Cell Sorting
  • Confocal Microscopy
  • Laser Capture Dissection
  • Array technology and real-time qPCR
  • In house service for ES cell work and the production of genetically modified mice

Facilities in the IBR supporting Centre members also include:-

Extensive tissue culture and biochemsitry laboratories

  • Proteomics and Genomics facilities
  • Containment facilities for work with up to category 3 micro-organisms
  • Sequencing and Construct Production
  • Extensive modern facilities for in-vivo animal work and mouse breeding
  • Structural Studies via the Henry Wellcome Facility for Biomolecular NMR Spectroscopy
