Wellbeing

Staff wellbeing is an important part of remaining healthy at work.

Central Resources

Staff Networks

Staff networks are independently run and are designed to provide a supportive environment for staff to discuss issues and concerns. Networks at the University include:

Parenting and Maternity

The University's guidance for pregnancy and maternity can be found on the intranet (log-in required). Item 7 refers to fixed-term contracts and may be useful for early career researchers.

The University also offers a discounted staff rate for its nurseries in Edgbaston and Selly Oak.

The College of Medical and Dental Sciences also runs a number of initiatives that benefit parents.

Privacy Pod

A private room has been created for multiple use by staff and postgraduate students. The 'Privacy Pod' can be used by/as:

  • Individuals returning from maternity leave who wish to express and store milk.
  • Prayer.
  • A calm room for staff who may be going through stress related anxiety.
  • Individuals who may need to rest from back pain (yoga mats are provided).

The 'Privacy Pod' is located in the Murray Learning Centre (Room 103) and contains comfy seating, a fridge, hand-washing facilities and yoga mats. For further information, please contact Sharon Murphy.
