Interdisciplinary and Empirical Ethics network (IEEN)
Funded by the Wellcome Trust, the IEEN is a collaborative project between the University of Birmingham and King’s College London, which seeks to generate discussion and cross-fertilisation amongst academics who are interested in taking interdisciplinary and empirical approaches to applied ethics.
The network will hold four meetings over the next two years, each with a different theme:
- Aims and methods
- Teaching and learning
- Professionalism
- Application and impact
Through these meetings we aim to:
1. Bring together leading academics, from different institutions and disciplinary backgrounds, to support the development of the area of interdisciplinary and empirical bioethics.
2. Foster informal communication between the members of the network,
3. Advance the field of bioethics by building capacity and sharing expertise in empirical and interdisciplinary ethics theories, methodologies and practices.
The network convenors will also hold communication lists for disseminating information of interest to members, and will seek to build a resource repository (such as themed bibliographies, case studies in interdisciplinary/empirical ethics) that members can access.
The network convenors are:
Dr Jonathan Ives – The University of Birmingham
Dr John Owens – King’s College London
Professor Alan Cribb – King’s College London
