The quality of the research work in the School of Metallurgy and Materials has been confirmed by our outstanding performance in successive Research Assessment Exercises. The Research Excellence Framework ranked us in the top quartile in the UK for world-leading research. 86% of our research was recognised as internationally excellent and 31% was given the higher accolade of being world-leading.More information about our can be found below.

Funded research projects

Our research encompasses a wide range of interests in the processing, characterisation, assessment and modelling of materials. We generate in excess of £10m per annum research funding from a range of funding bodies, demonstrating our expertise and proven track record in sourcing and applying for funding.

Labs & facilities

The School houses a wide range of specialist research equipment housed in a number of labs. Many of the facilities are managed by one or more of the research groups in the School. Our labs and facilities are key to our academic and industrial research collaborations.
