University of Birmingham (UoB)

UoB is the coordinator of NEXT-3D. University of Birmingham provides a number of specialists with expertise in Biomaterials (orthopaedic implants, dental implants etc), peptide chemistry and antimicrobial peptides, drug delivery using specialised drug delivery systems based on innovative chemistry and methodology. Furthermore UoB brings expertise in the micro-structural characterisation of ceramics and calcium phosphates. UoB participates in several secondments to UTS, BRESMED and JDH following the inter- and multi-disciplinary approach of NEXT-3D. University of Birmingham's main contribution will be the functionalization of 3D printed coatings in order to achieve multi-functionality and specifically antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse (INPT)

INPT provides a vast range of expertise in the characterisation of materials and specifically calcium phosphates as well as drug delivery and release studies. INPT participates in secondments to UTS, BRESMED and JDH. They will provide support on the characterisation of materials at the nano-, micro- and macroscale. They also contribute into the management of NEXT-3D by chairing one subcommittee and participating in the supervisory board.

Joseph Ducuing Hospital (JDH)

JDH is an important member of the consortium as they support the clinical aspects of the project. Although, there is no patient involvement or any use of human tissue or human cells, JDH will allow the researchers of NEXT-3D to attend operations sometimes with complications caused by bone infection. The hospital retains the responsibility for the organisation of the operations and the attendance will proceed according to hospital regulations.

University of Technology Sydney (UTS)

UTS are the lead participant in a number of work packages and support many secondments from Europe offering the use of their excellent equipment, facilities and infrastructure. They have close contact with BRESMED and they will  contribute in the development of the processing of materials and the innovative multifunctional ceramic and polymeric coatings. They are also involved strongly in the management of the network and they offer vast experience of development of biomedical materials from the lab to the market.

University of New South Wales (UNSW)

UNSW is an important contributor to NEXT-3D. Their expertise include the development, fabrication, and characterisation of ceramics with particular focus on advanced processing and coating techniques for bioceramics (hydroxyapatite, alumina, zirconia) and functional ceramics (piezoelectrics, lead-free ferroelectrics, ceramic thin films). UNSW will act together with UTS on the characterisation on materials but they will also make contributions towards the processing of materials. UNSW will be seconded to UB, JDH and INPT for knowledge transfer and ideas sharing. UNSW will be a member of the supervisory board and will contribute to the management of the research and innovation network by acting as a mentor for the younger researchers of the network having himself vast experience in research and academic education. As a mentor he will be preoccupied with following the research career plans of the researchers and monitoring their progress.

BRESMEDICAL Pty Ltd (BRESMED)

This is a new and dynamic biomedical company that aims to become a successful player in the area of maxillofacial, dental and orthopaedic implants. They offer great expertise in the processing of materials using 3D laser printing and sintering. They will accept secondments and they will contribute by training the NEXT-3D researchers in the use and understanding of this technique. They will also be seconded to JDH, UB and INPT and will contribute to the project with significant knowledge transfer. They also participate in the management of NEXT-3D by participating in the supervisory board and the IP exploitation subcommittee.
