The Network for Oratory and Politics is launched at the University of Birmingham with a public lecture by Professor Alan Finlayson (University of East Anglia) on public speech in modern democratic political life.

Professor Finlayson is a leading expert on British political speech, the creator of the online archive British Political Speech, co-editor of the Palgrave book series Rhetoric, Politics and Society, co-founder and Treasurer of the Rhetoric and Politics Group of the UK Political Studies Association and a member of the International Task Force of the Rhetoric Society of America.

The lecture will be preceded by an introduction to the Network and followed by a drinks reception.
