Nuclear research project The Birmingham Centre for Nuclear Education and Research at the University of Birmingham offers a broad range of opportunities to study for an advanced postgraduate research degree in subject areas including for example:

Nuclear Engineering Doctorate

Nuclear physics experimentThe University of Birmingham is a consortium member of the UK Nuclear Engineering Doctoral Training Centre led by the University of Manchester and Imperial College.  The scheme offers a fully funded EngD in Nuclear Engineering.

The primary objective of the Nuclear EngD is to provide outstanding young nuclear Research Engineers with intensive training in collaboration with industrial companies so that they are equipped for careers in senior positions in the nuclear industry. 

In addition to obtaining a high quality qualification the Research Engineers will gain experience of working in an industrial research and development environment. This four year programme involves the Research Engineer being based within an industrial company in the UK. 

PET scannerApplications are encouraged from people with the following backgrounds: Aerospace, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Materials, Mechanical Engineering and Physics.

Funding: Standard EPSRC doctoral stipend enhanced by a contribution from the sponsoring company.
