Imaging the functional brain: fusion of magnetic resonance spectroscopy and functional magnetic resonance imaging in a human learning (visual acuity) paradigm

This project will investigate functional workings of the brain by combining fMI with MRS in a collaboration involving the Cognitive Neuroimaging Laboratory (CNIL, School of Psychology) and the Institute of Child Health (ICH, Birmingham Children's Hospital). The main research focus will be to investigate the functional and metabolic signatures of learning and brain plasticity. Initial investigations will concentrate on the role of aminobutyric acid (GABA) during a visual learning task with the intention to broaden the research to include paediatric brain tumours as the project continues.
