Thesis project - "Optical Imaging of Vasculature in Tumours Using Novel Gold Nanoparticle Probes"

This project will focus on the development and application of new gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) functionalised with luminescent probes and antibodies for targeting vasculature in tumours. Selective targeting to the tumour endothelial cells will be done by attaching monoclonal antibodies to the AuNP that are specific to the tumour endothelial markers.  Optical imaging techniques will demonstrate non-invasively studies to assess the uptake of nanoparticles into tumour vessels and their targeting efficiencies.  Multi-photon techniques and near infrared imaging will be explored on novel nanoparticle probes.Electron microscopy techniques will also be investigated to tackle the imaging of cells and tissues.
