The Biostatistics, Evidence Synthesis, Test Evaluation and prediction Models (BESTEAM) research team is a multidisciplinary group within the Institute of Applied Health Research at the University of Birmingham. 

The team consists of medical statisticians, systematic reviews and information specialists who work in various fields of medical research.

Aims of the research

The research of the team covers:

  • Biostatistics research, including both application and development of methodology with cluster trials and stepped-wedge studies being a key area
  • Synthesis of evidence, including systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • Test evaluation, focusing on both the development of methodology to enable robust evaluation of tests and delivering primary research to assess medical tests and biomarkers
