The CERJ Mission

The need for chemical pollution intervention has never been greater

In today's interconnected world, environmental contaminants stemming from industrial processes and human activities are transported globally, surpassing critical thresholds that delineate the boundaries for sustainable existence, also known as "planetary boundaries." The ramifications of pollution are stark.

This burden disproportionately afflicts low and middle-income nations. Even in developed economies, pollution imposes burden on public health systems, being the primary cause of respiratory diseases, autoimmune disorders, and cancer.

Additionally, the adverse effects of pollution extend beyond human health. Water, air, and soil degradation are rampant, compounded by the interplay of pollution, climate change, and land use practices, leading to a staggering loss of biodiversity.

Multidisciplinary responses are key to solving the problem

In response to the current crisis, the Centre for Environmental Research and Justice (CERJ) is dedicated to tackling the effects of pollution on both nature and human health. Harnessing a multidisciplinary approach, CERJ employs cutting-edge methods to track, evaluate, and devise strategies against environmental contamination. By integrating life sciences, healthcare, environmental studies, legal frameworks, and policy-making, CERJ leads innovative research to assess the hazards of chemical pollutants and advocate for the fundamental right to a healthy environment.

Our joint initiatives are backed by a diverse network of partners, including regulatory bodies, industry players, consultancies, and non-profit organizations. Driven by our commitment and the growing impact of our initiatives, we are initiating a recruitment campaign to expand our scope, adding a socio-economic dimension and sustainable practices to further improve both ecological and public health.

The ambitious vision of CERJ

Our centre will evolve into a premier reference hub for ‘One Health’, championing holistic approaches that transcend disciplinary boundaries. By leveraging our extensive network and expertise, and mobilising through cutting-edge initiatives, we aim to drive impactful change through evidence-based policies and innovative practices.

Our ultimate goal is to establish CERJ as the preeminent resource for pioneering research, policy advocacy, community engagement, and tangible solutions to pollution.
