Maximising Research Impact

Our PLOS Medicine work provides a summary of existing methodological frameworks and metrics for research impact, which funders may use to inform the measurement of research impact and researchers may use to inform study design decisions aimed at maximising the short-, medium-, and long-term impact of their research. We identified that PRO impact can be direct or indirect, PRO impact metric and barriers and facilitators to maximising PRO impact.

As a part of the maximising research impact project, we explored how PRO impact is currently realised in practice. To achieve this we assessed real-world evidence of PRO trial data impact based on Research Excellence Framework (REF) impact case studies.
