DESCRIPTION:Environmental Sustainability and Financial Security
 Since Covid-19 hit the UK in February 2020, unemployment, poverty and debt have all increased significantly and look set to rise still further, while some groups have seen their savings increase. With many households already facing acute financial strain amidst a cost of living crisis, the UK governments’ plans to transition to net zero raises important questions about how, if it at all, this can be done equitably. \n
 This year’s conference brings together academics and representatives from the public, private and third sectors to discuss the key issues and implications of environmental sustainability goals on household financial security. \n
 We look forward to hearing from our speakers individually, followed by a panel discussion. \n

 This talk will discuss some of the barriers to affordable access to household energy today and how they interact with solutions in affordable green energy today and in the future. \n
Emma Stockdale, Nest Insight
 Responsible investment as a motivator of pension engagement\n
 Recent research by Nest Insight, supported by Legal & General Investment Management, challenges the commonly held view that talking to disengaged pension savers about responsible investment and environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues could be a widely effective way to prompt people to engage for the first time. \n

 Energy bills, net zero and living standards\n
 This talk will discuss what is happening in the energy crunch, against a backdrop of rising inflation and a lack of economic growth. Who is most affected, what differences the government’s interventions have made so far and what this all means for the net zero transition.\n
