The Economic Impacts of Brexit on the UK, its Regions, its Cities and its Sectors: West Midlands Participatory Workshop

Location
The Banqueting Suite Council House Victoria Square Birmingham B1 1BB
Dates
Friday 11 May 2018 (09:00-14:00)

Our ESRC funded Brexit project, as part of the UK in a Changing Europe Initiative, aims to examine in detail the likely impacts of Brexit on the UK’s sectors, regions, and cities. Our analysis draws upon the most detailed regional-national-international trade and competition datasets currently available anywhere in the world, allowing us to examine the impacts of different post-Brexit trade scenarios on UK sectors and regions.

It is critical that we ensure that these academic outputs connect with broader public policy arenas at the national and regional level. Therefore, we are a hosting a series of participatory workshops across the country to engage with city, regional and national stakeholders. The aim of these workshops is to share our regional-specific research findings and collaborate with stakeholders to develop alternative post-Brexit scenarios, considering both what city-regional authorities want and also what policy responses are likely to be most effective.

The workshop will take place at The Banqueting Suite, Council House, Victoria Square, Birmingham, B1 1BB on Friday 11th May from 9.00 – 2.00 pm. Our speakers will bring together a diverse range of views from across the realms of academia, politics, and business including Professor Daniel Wincott (the UK in a Changing Europe), Lloyd Broad (Birmingham City Council), Professor David Bailey (Aston University), Charlie Hopkirk (Black Country Consortium), Justin Benson (KMPG – Automotive), among many others.
