Brexit North Summit

Location
Civic Hall Calverley Street Leeds LS1 1UR
Dates
Monday 21 May 2018 (10:30-16:00)

IPPR North and City-REDI (Birmingham Business School) are hosting the first Brexit North Summit to bring together political and business leaders, together with academics and civil society organisations to discuss the likely impact of Brexit in the North and to agree the urgent actions that need to be taken in the crucial months ahead.

A growing number of studies are showing that the North of England could be more exposed to economic impacts of leaving the European Union than other parts of the country with even the government’s own impact analysis showing the possibility of the North East facing a 16% fall in GDP in a hard Brexit scenario. Others meanwhile have a much more positive assessment, arguing that ideas like freeports and the Shared Prosperity Fund represent opportunities to fire up our flagging regions.

This event is being organised by IPPR North, the leading think-tank for the North of England, and City-REDI as part of their work on the UK in a Changing Europe Initiative, aiming to examine the likely impacts of Brexit on the UK’s sectors, regions, and cities. City-REDI's analysis draws upon the most detailed regional-national-international trade and competition datasets currently available anywhere in the world, allowing them to examine the impacts of different post-Brexit trade scenarios on UK sectors and regions. This summit will form part of a series of City-REDI events across the UK at which they will share their findings and collaborate with stakeholders.

Speakers to be announced shortly- follow @IPPRNorth on Twitter for updates.
