UK Biobank

UK Biobank recruited 500,000 people aged between 40-69 years from 2006-2010.  Participants have undergone measures, provided blood, urine and saliva samples for future analysis, detailed information about themselves and agreed to have their health followed.

Over many years this will build into a powerful resource to help scientists discover why some people develop diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke and diabetes and others do not.

We have downloaded the genetic (genotype and Imputation datasets) generated on the 500,000 participants of UKBiobank.

University of Birmingham researchers can access this data from CaStLES for the purposes of an approved UKB project.  All other data collected on UKB participants will need to be downloaded by the individual project PI or their delegated responsible person.

The datasets were downloaded from EGA in Spring 2018.  The EGA dataset IDs are:
EGAD00010001474 (imputation), and
EGAD00010001497 (directly genotyped)

The imputation data is v3.  The genotype data is v2.  Documentation about the latest release can be found here:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON GAINING ACCESS TO THIS DATA:

If you are in the process of applying for a new UKBiobank project,  in Section B of your application please indicate that you wish to link to the UoB institute copy of the genetic dataset and then follow step 2 below.

If you have an existing approved project with UKB please do the following to gain access to the institute copy:

  1. Email access@ukbiobank.ac.uk with your project ID and request approval from UKB to bridge to the UoB institute copy of the genetic dataset
  2. Email a fully signed copy of the UoB/UKB MTA for your project and a screen shot from the access management system showing all University of Birmingham staff and students who are registered with UKB as users and should be given access to the data for the purposes of the project named in the MTA to ukbiobank-request@contacts.bham.ac.uk

CaStLES resources
CaStLeS resources (both compute and storage) are a constituent part of BEAR Cloud and the wider BEAR infrastructure. They are reserved exclusively for the use of research groups carrying out research in the life sciences and governed by academics through the CaStLeS Executive and Strategic Oversight Group.

CaStLES storage would be an idea place to store this data, please review the following website to help you apply for this storage.
