UK Energy Storage Roadmap Launch

In a world where energy use is changing rapidly, and supplies are increasingly from variable and local sources, there is a requirement to have a more flexible energy system that is reliable and low carbon. One option is to increase levels of energy storage across scales, in order to meet consumer needs including for thermal, electrical and mobility demands. The scope of such energy storage covers a wide family of technologies with different cost and performance characteristics, from batteries used in consumer goods to underground reservoirs holding hot water.

The Supergen Energy Storage Network+ will launch a Research and Innovation Roadmap for Energy Storage that assesses the potential role of energy storage in the UK’s future energy system and identifies the contribution of research and innovation to meeting the challenges .

The Supergen Energy Storage Network+ connects and serves stakeholders across the whole energy community, advancing and championing UK energy storage research and deployment. Driven by a multi-disciplinary investigator team and a well-established and growing base of expert members, the Supergen Network+ will convene the energy storage community across discipline to enable it to grow, to flourish and to strengthen its leading position in the sector. The team of investigators consists of 19 leading academics at 12 UK academic institutions and over 60 supporting organisations. The Supergen Network+ is led from the University of Birmingham by Professor Yulong Ding.
