Abstract
Demand response is called to play an important role in smart grids as a means to shift or reduce electricity consumption during peak demand periods. Demand response programs have mostly been oriented to large consumers, but participation of residential and commercial customers is expected to increase with the development and implementation of smart buildings. We present optimization-based approaches to facilitate the integration of demand response in a smart grid.
