A talk by Jamie Shea (NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges)

In this talk, Jamie Shea will consider the range of issues NATO currently faces - from reassurance measures on its eastern flank, to NATO's role in the crises surrounding Turkey on its southern flank. In light of NATO's upcoming summit in Warsaw, the talk will also consider how successfully the Alliance has implemented the Wales summit package of 2014 - entailing projected increases on defence expenditure and the rolling out of a comprehensive Readiness Action Plan to deal with the consequences of the Ukraine crisis. Given tensions with Russia over both Ukraine and Syria, the prospects for a repair of the relationship with Moscow will also be considered.

This meeting is convened by the Institute for Conflict, Cooperation and Security (School of Government and Society).
