About ISTEMMiCS

The Institute for STEMM in Culture and Society (ISTEMMiCS) brings together multi-disciplinary humanities and social science expertise to explore the role of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) in diverse or pluralistic societies.

We utilise a broad range of methodologies, including research in history/history of science, literary studies, media/communications studies, linguistics, science and technology studies (STS), sociology, sociology of religion, psychology, anthropology and the medical humanities.

This allows us to examine science in society through the lens of cultural narratives and social relations, enabling a more holistic understanding of STEMM and STEMM communication in, and as part of, its societal and cultural context.
