DESCRIPTION:What works to support LGBTQ+ young people’s mental health?: an intersectional youth-rights model
with Professor Liz McDermott
 LGBTQ+ young people have a higher risk of poor mental health in comparison to cis-gendered heterosexual young people, and they underuse mental health services and support. Despite this mental health inequality, there is a scarcity of UK research examining mental health provision for this group of young people. This seminar presents findings from the Queer Futures 2 study www.queerfutures2.co.uk that aimed to generate evidence to improve the delivery of mental health early intervention services and self-care support to LGBTQ+ young people in the UK.\n

 Elizabeth McDermott is a Professor of Mental Health & Society at The University of Birmingham where she is the Deputy Director of the Institute of Mental Health. Her research is focussed upon young people’s mental health inequalities both explaining why they exist and developing ways to tackle the problem. Over the last two decades this research has concentrated in particular on LGBTQ+ young people's mental health.\n
