DESCRIPTION:LGBTQ+ health in Switzerland – quantitative results and insights in a qualitative study on suicide attempts of LGBTQ+ youth
 Professor Andreas Pfister will discuss the most recent quantitative data on health of LGBTQ+ persons in Switzerland and then focus on mental health and suicide attempts of LGBTQ+ youth. What research gaps do exist and how do we intend to cover them with our actual qualitative study, financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation, to improve suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ youth in Switzerland and beyond.\n

About the Speaker
 \n Andreas Pfister, Prof. Dr, educational scientist/social pedagogue, is professor and co-director of the Institute of Public Health at the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences, School of Health Sciences, situated in Winterthur (Switzerland). His teaching and research interests in the fields of public health and social work include equity in health promotion and prevention, addiction prevention, sexual health, suicide prevention and diversity/intersectionality. Recently he has concluded the first nationwide study on the health of LGBTQ+ persons in Switzerland and their access to healthcare. Currently he is leading a qualitative study, financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation, researching processes towards suicide attempts of Swiss LGBTQ+ youth in German- and French-speaking Switzerland. Andreas studied in Zurich (University of Zurich) and Berlin (Freie Universität, Humboldt Universität) and was a visiting scholar at Jane Addams College of Social Work (UIC at Chicago). Beside his academic path he has worked in public health and social work practice (e. g. addiction prevention unit, City of Zurich).\n
