Undergraduate Degrees

Students interested in the nineteenth century can benefit both from the centre’s activities and a range of resources and collaborations, including the Cadbury Research Institute, the Barber Institute, the Lapworth Museum, and the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.  

There are various options for students wanting to study English Literature at the University of Birmingham, including various joint-honours possibilities.

Postgraduate Taught

The department offers specific pathways allowing students to specialise during MA study. The Literature and Culture MA programme has a Long Nineteenth Century pathway with a variety of core and optional modules designed to allow students to gain a greater theoretical, contextual, and critical understanding of a wide range of topics in the nineteenth century. Students also benefit from the Centre’s activities, including but not limited to access to the Long Nineteenth Century Research Seminars.

Postgraduate Research   

Students in the department have the option of completing an MA by research, or a PhD. As above, students interested in the nineteenth century will benefit from the wide range of links to other resources, and the range of research interests in the English Literature department.
