Bowen Liu is a Research Fellow of Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham. His research is in the areas of Environmental Economics, Development Economics, Health Economics and Political Economics. His current research focuses on delivering the Strand 5 (Economic strand) of the WM-AIR project that aims at investigating the social and economic impact of air pollution within West Midlands, UK.

Biography

Bowen finished his PhD of Economics from University of Birmingham in 2021. As an Environmental Economist, his PhD research focuses on investigating the effectiveness of air pollution control policies in China. Bowen is interested in policy evaluation using interdisciplinary research method that include Econometrics and Machine Learning algorithms, with particular focus on policies and interventions that promote regional Economic development, Environmental protection and Sustainable development.

Bowen has participated a number of research projects as co-investigator:

1. WM-Air, West Midlands Air Quality Improvement Programme, Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), PI: Professor William Bloss. Co-investigator for the Strand 5 (Economics Strand) of the WM-Air Project. £5m, 2021-2023

2. Co-investigator for the “Impact of Covid-19 lockdown on air quality in selected megacities” project, Funded by IGI (The Institute for Global innovation) Clean Air Theme from University of Birmingham (£9,825), 2020

3. Co-investigator for the “Winter heating and air quality in China” project, Funded by IGI (The Institute for Global innovation) Clean Air Theme from University of Birmingham (£5,500), 2020-2021
