This project will look at labour and housing market effects of creative industries firms, workers and freelancers in their region and more broadly. Specifically, it will build on Moretti’s ‘local multiplier’ studies for US cities and related US and UK work.
The research contributes to a number of research fields in local economic development, urban economics and industry studies, and to key public policy agendas (industrial strategy, urban regeneration).
This project is being conducted through the AHRC-funded Creative Economy Policy and Evidence Centre. The Centre is an independent organisation led by NESTA, with workstreams based in a number of UK universities.
Objectives
This project aims to understand and generate evidence on the local spillovers associated with creative industries and the creative economy, via multiplier effects of creative industries firms, workers and freelancers in a given city/region.
