Prof. Shlomo Y. Tarba is Chair in Strategy and International Business in the Department of Strategy and International Business at Birmingham Business School. 

Prof. Shlomo Y. Tarba is a Chair in Strategy & International Business, and joined Birmingham Business School as a Reader (Associate Professor) in August 2015. Previously he worked as a Lecturer in Business Strategy & International Business in the Management School of the University of Sheffield (2013-15), and has vast teaching experience in The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv University, Ben-Gurion University, and others.

Prof. Tarba is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of cross-border mergers and acquisitions, organizational ambidexterity, agility, and cross-cultural management.

He served as a presenter and/or track/session chair at various conferences such as Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society, Academy of International Business, British Academy of Management, European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS), European International Business Academy (EIBA), European Academy of Management (EURAM), and EuroMed Academy of International Business.

One of his papers has been selected and published in Best Paper Proceedings of the Academy of Management (USA) in 2006.

His consulting experience includes biotech and telecom companies, as well as industry association such as The Israeli Rubber and Plastic Industry Association, and The US – Israel Chamber of Commerce.


Prof. Shlomo Y. Tarba teaches mandatory Strategic Management core module and elective International Collaborative Strategies module to postgraduate and undergraduate students across different programs delivered by the School.

Postgraduate supervision

Prof. Tarba has supervised a wide range of student dissertations from undergraduate to doctoral-level.


Prof. Tarba's fields of expertise are Business Strategy, Global Strategy, Human Resource Management, and Organisational Behaviour.

His principal research interests lie in Mergers and Acquisitions, Strategic Agility, Ambidexterity, Resilience, and Sustainability.

Prof. Tarba is a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Management Studies, British Journal of ManagementHuman Resource ManagementJournal of World Business, International Business Review, and Thunderbird International Business Review.
