Samer joined the Birmingham Business School after completing his Ph.D. in Economics at the University of St Andrews. His research is primarily focused on the interaction between stock market movements and corporate actions. He examines the extent to which companies "learn" from the variations in their own stock returns in developing and adjusting key corporate actions such as Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and Equity Offerings. He also studies the role of informed trading - within the framework of the Grossman-Stiglitz paradox and the original work of F.A. Hayek - in influencing stock returns at both the firm and market levels.

Qualifications

2015   PhD in Economics (Finance Thesis), University of St Andrews, United Kingdom

2011   MSc in Finance, University of St Andrews, United Kingdom

Biography

Samer joined Birmingham Business School in April 2017 after completing a Ph.D. in Economics (Finance Thesis) at the University of St Andrews. His work is primarily focused on the interaction between stock market movements and corporate actions. He particularly examines the extent to which companies "learn" from the variations in their own stock returns in developing and adjusting key corporate actions such as Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and Equity Offerings. He also studies the role of informed trading in predicting future stock crashes at both the firm- and market-wide levels. He welcomes MSc proposals to be developed under his supervision in these areas.
