Parvez Mia is an Assistant Professor in Accounting at Birmingham Business School. His research interests are social and environmental accounting, and the way organisations communicate that information. His research interests cover a range of Social and Environmental Accounting topics with a particular interest in Accounting for Climate Change and Accounting for Sustainable Development.  He joined the University of Birmingham in June 2022.

Biography

Parvez has a strong academic track record with over eight years of outstanding teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has worked as an assistant professor and module coordinator and developed course materials for several accounting and other business courses at several Australian universities. Before joining University of Birmingham, he worked as assistant professor at University of Newcastle, Australia, adjunct academic at several institutes in Australia including Macquarie University, University of New South Wales, Wollongong University. 

His research interest is to explore sustainability accounting and reporting practices and the use of machine learning in evaluating quality of organisations’ disclosure on various issues. He has published several book chapters and research papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented his research activities at several national and international conferences. 

He also worked as Audit Assistant for more than a year in a professional accounting firm, DFK Malaysia.
