Biography

Helen joined the Department of Accounting at Birmingham Business School from Birmingham City University in 2023, where she was a Senior Teaching Fellow and Course Leader on the BSc Accountancy programme.

Helen is a qualified accountant with industry experience in a ‘Big Four’ accountancy practice and a CCAB professional accountancy body.  Her career began at the Audit Commission, where she was a team leader in audit and assurance engagements for large and complex public sector organisations. Upon qualification, Helen moved to KPMG LLP, UK, where she was Assistant Manager on public sector audit and assurance engagements.  The period spent in practice gave her significant experience of client liaison, operational management and applying technical knowledge and professional judgement to complex problems.

Due to a keen interest in education, Helen directed her career into professional accountancy education at CIFPA in 2011 and then into academia in 2016. She has a passion for improving the employability of graduates and can capitalise on her experience of professional practice to enhance the employability of students, through classroom activities and the provision of individual support.
