Dr. Agnieszka Chidlow is the Head of the Department of Strategy & International Business and a visiting Professor at The School of International Business, The Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in China.

Agnieszka is the Co-founder and Chair of the Annual Strategy & International Business Symposium and the Responsible Research Methods Symposium in the Department and the Business School. She is also an active Co-founder and Vice-President Programme of the Academy of International Business Research Methods–Shared Interest Group (https://rmsig.aib.world) as well as an Executive Committee Member of the Best Research Methods Paper Award at the Academy of International Business and its UK&I and CEE Chapters.

Agnieszka’s teaching and research expertise lie in the area of the internationalization of firms and methodological issues of international business research. Her research has been published in leading international journals as well as books.

She is currently an Associate Editor of International Business Review and she has also Editorial experiences in other international journals.

Biography

Dr. Agnieszka Chidlow is the Head of the Department of Strategy & International Business and a member of the Strategic Management Team at the Business School. 

Agnieszka is the Co-founder and Chair of the Annual Strategy and International Business Symposiumand the Founder and Chair of the Responsible Research Methods Symposiumwithin the Department of Strategy and International Business.

Priori joining Birmingham in January 2015, Agnieszka was associated with Kings’ College London, Manchester Metropolitan University, The University of Manchester, London School of Economics, Staffordshire University and The University of Szczecin (Poland).

Agnieszka is currently a visiting Professor at the School of International Business in the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in China. Priori to that she had also been a visiting scholar at several US and European Universities (e.g. New York University, The University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Georgia State University and Uppsala University).

Teaching

Agnieszka’s specialist teaching is in the areas of international business, strategy and research methodology to undergraduate and postgraduate students across different programs. She has also successfully supervised, taught and examined PhD students.

Research

Agnieszka’s research expertise as well as interests lie in the area of the internationalization of firms and methodological issues of international business research. More specifically, these include: research into emerging markets, location strategies and regional development aspects of Foreign Direct Investments and multinational companies, strategic development of subsidiaries at both national and regional levels, the role of language and translation in cross-language international business research, the impact of terrorist incidents on location choices of multinational companies as well as qualitative and quantitative research methods in cross-country studies.

By bridging theory and practice she seeks opportunities to collaborate both nationally and internationally with partners to co-create work within her research areas that has significant value, it is intellectually stimulating, mutually rewarding and has impact on the communities of practice engaged in research. As the central aim of her research work is to improve, innovate and impact on the human condition through rigorous research and engaged scholarship.
