Rob Shrimpton – College of Arts and Law Graduate School Manager
Rob’s work-life has seen him through a number of roles from go-kart racer and fish-monger, to lecturer and now higher education administrator.

“I am currently 6 years into a part-time PhD on Happiness in the Department of Philosophy.  Alongside that, have managed to carve out the beginnings of a career in HE admin.  I’m the Graduate School Manager for the College of Arts and Law, and I am one of many people working at the University who undertook a PhD with a view to entering academia, and ended up crossing the floor into the administration.”

Kate Gerrard- a Faculty Manager for the Institute of Education
“I was a museum director and went into the museum and galleries sector after my masters. I left about 3 years ago though and moved into HE administration - I'm a Faculty Manager for the Institute of Education, University of London (Charlotte Jarvis is my equivalent at Birmingham if that helps!),  but whilst my current role offers an interesting perspective on alternative senior HE careers, it's probably not quite as glamorous as running a museum!”
