Harriet Moore – MA Art History and Curating

MA Art History and Curating student, Harriet Moore, tells us more about her experience studying at the University of Birmingham.

Harriet MooreWhy did you choose to study a Masters in Art History and Curating?

“I chose to study Art History and Curating at the University of Birmingham because of the fantastic opportunities the course allowed me to experience. I was also an Undergraduate of the History of Art course and enjoyed the close community of the department and how passionate the tutors are in teaching and helping to further our knowledge in this subject.”

What has been the highlight of your course?

“I have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this course. My favourite module is Curatorial Practices as I was able to co-curate an exhibition. It combines an amazing mix of theoretical and practical elements, which give you the opportunity to work in a gallery gaining valuable skills in a wide range of museum roles.”

What have you learnt from your programme?

“During my time on the MA Art History and Curating course I have been able to develop many skills including research, exhibition theory and knowledge of the varying roles of museum practice. This course has enriched my knowledge of collections and given me practical skills, which are undoubtedly transferable to a variety of roles in the wider art world.”

What is life like as a student at the University of Birmingham?

“Life as a student at the University is fantastic. Campus life is exciting and varied. There is always something to get involved in whether that is a society event or immersing yourself in a new activity, which are aided by the excellent facilities. There is a wealth of support from the University and the tutors are always willing to help.”
