Socrates and Erasmus scheme

We welcome visiting students from one of our partner institutions in the EU:

  • University of Helsinki (Finland)
  • Université Bordeaux I (France)
  • Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (France)
  • Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie de Montpellier (France)
  • Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie de Toulouse (France)
  • Technische Universität Braunschweig (Germany)
  • Philipps Universität Marburg (Germany)
  • Università di Pavia (Italy)
  • Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (Spain)
  • Uppsala University (Sweden)

If you are currently studying at one of these institutions and would like to spend some time studying at the University of Birmingham, you should:

  1. contact the Socrates coordinator at your own university.
  2. contact Birmingham Chemistry’s coordinator, Dr John Wilkie to obtain an up-to-date list of modules and possible module combinations.
  3. complete and submit the application form, which your Socrates Coordinator will be able to provide.

When you arrive

As soon as you arrive, you need to register with the Student Records Office in the Aston Webb Building (click here for a map and directions to the University) who will issue you with a student registration number, which is essential for your studies at Birmingham.

If English is not your first language you will also need to take the University's internal English test (BADT) at the University’s English for International Students Unit (EISU). This test is in addition to any English qualification needed in order to enter the University. The results are used to advise you about any English courses you may need to take whilst studying here.

You should also see Dr John Wilkie in the first week to discuss which Chemistry courses to take.
