Computing at the University of Birmingham dates back to the 1950s, with the school boasting a strong tradition of academic excellence.
We are an internationally ranking computer science department, and are home to a number of academic staff from across the globe, working at the forefront of their field of expertise.
Our School is also home to a GCHQ-recognised Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research.
The University has also been awarded a Gold rating in the 2016/17 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
You will study at a School whose programmes have been consistently rated as excellent. Our teaching is regularly reviewed and achieves high scores and commendations. In our last review, we received the highest possible ratings for our Computer Science teaching from the QAA. We respond to student feedback and requirements in industry and further study, and tailor our teaching and research accordingly.
Our School is placed 8th nationally for research quality in the '2014 Research Excellence Framework', and our work is regularly presented in international conferences and journals, indicating the high standards we achieve in research.
We are currently working towards maintaining a high position in the REF 2021.
