Photograph of Sir Terry Pratchett by Robin ZebrowskiAt his death in March this year, Terry Pratchett was one of the most successful British writers, known in particular for his forty Discworld novels, the Johnny Maxwell trilogy, and his collaborations with Neil Gaiman and Stephen Baxter.

His work - often irreverent, generally satirical, always enjoyable - seems to both invite and push against concerted academic criticism. How, then, to begin to think about these books in an academic way? This seminar will offer some starting points as well as a chance for general discussion, an exchange of favourite moments, and a few readings from the works themselves.
