Abstract

Between the ages of 11 and 17, Jane Austen consumed and sent up pulp fiction at a dizzying pace. This talk construes her early works, following Virginia Woolf’s suggestion, as rehearsals for the career of a novelist; here, said, Woolf, we see ‘Jane Austen practising’.
