English alumna publishes no-nonsense self-help book series

University of Birmingham alumna Jo Usmar (English, 2005) is celebrating publishing a series of self-help books which she has co-authored with clinical psychologist Dr Jessamy Hibberd.

This Book Will seriesJo, a freelance journalist, has been a regular columnist for Cosmopolitan and featured in Stylist, Heat and The Daily Mirror among many other national newspapers, magazines and websites. The collection of four books (This Book Will Make You Happy/Calm/Sleep/Confident) marks her first venture into book publishing. Based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy they’re accessible, practical and immediate.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is based on the belief that your mood, thoughts, behaviour and how you feel physically are all connected - e.g. if you feel anxious (mood), your heart rate will speed up and your body might become tense (physicality), you'll start thinking negatively ('I can't do this') and might do something unhelpful like snap at someone (behaviour).

The series has so far been featured in YOU magazine, Stylist, Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, Look, Now, MSN Lifestyle, Zest, Woman and Home and The Express among others.

This Book Will Make You Happy/Calm/Sleep/Confident by Dr Jessamy Hibberd and Jo Usmar are out now. For more information please visit www.jessamyandjo.com.
