College of Arts and Law at Bournville BookFest

Bournville Bookfest 2021 takes place this September 10th-12th, at Woodbrooke House and Gardens, George Cadbury's old family home off Bristol Road. Entering its eighth year, the festival provides family-focussed literary activities including storytelling events, workshops and author performances for children aged 0-12.

In previous years, students from the College have volunteered as marketing interns, helping to write the festival programme, as well as providing marketing and social media support for the event. Three of the 2019 intern cohort went on to be offered full time work in publishing and marketing after graduation as a direct result of the contacts they made at Bournville BookFest, including one intern receiving a prestigious scholarship with Faber. Students also support the festival as volunteers, supporting the operations and logistics of the festival providing welcomes and looking after authors. This year over 150 students from the College are already signed up to volunteer.

Helen Murray, Student Experience Manager in the College of Arts and Law, said: “We are thrilled to be working again in partnership with Bournville Bookfest to provide this excellent opportunity for our students to develop their skills, and to support this local literary festival in delivering our joint goals of improving child literacy and finding new ways to approach literature.”
