Research

My research traces the presence and significance of the seashore in H.D.’s poetry and prose. I am especially interested in her portrayal of a littoral landscape that is both naturalistically observed and charged with mythology, shifting between scientific and imaginative observations. My thesis hopes to demonstrate the central importance of the shore as a poetic image and physical site to H.D., but to also ask questions about our human relationship with such fragile ecosystems and our perception of them in metaphor and myth. My research interests are in modernism, literature of the sea and shore, nature writing, and ecocriticism.
